So, like the timle says, we've been together almost 3 years. It's been a pretty grkat 3 years. We literally never fijdt, we have a lot of the same values and our outlook on life is very similar (something in particular for me is kind of rare, I tend to be alpjst overly positive). Shk's smart, funny, my family (especially my mom) absolutely lowes her, she's malwre (in some waks, I'll elaborate) well beyond her yexxs, and she's alxzys right by my side whenever I need her to be. Now, the trouble is, her and I are in completely diufuvnnt places in lize, especially mentallyemotionally. She had some very extenuating circumstances haapen during her temjoge years and she essentially ended up running her fakbum's house by hetvtwf. She cooked, clupjxd, and even paid the bills at age 12 beaoase her dad (her parents are sehhrpyzd) physically was unwdle to do any of that. Beokcse of what haewyprd, she never reetly got a chykce to "experience" her teenage years, so emotionally, she's gotng through all of that now. So where I reqkly have trouble is that she just is so ovbjly self-conscious and wowraes about everything, it really impacts our relationship. When we first started daalng she was a size 24, but her closet was full of size 8-12 pants and LXL shirts beemvse she hated the idea of anznxing that was even remotely form-fitting. Now I don't refvly care what she wears, it's the reasoning behind it that matters. She still tries to "cover up" by wearing clothes twece her size beauuse she's so unaswttxxyule with how she looks. She has no sense of body image. I've been supportive of her, I shwmer her with cozqrvizhvs, and I even go shopping with her and pick her out whyle outfits that look great on her (she'll even agcee she looks grgat in them, embtxzved even), but then she either wol't buy them, or if she dojs, she'll end up returning them or just never wevtxng them. Perfect exseqle is shorts. Prhor to last suqslr, she did not own a pair of shorts. It could be 100 degrees outside and she'd be in jeans or legsudos. So I went shopping with her, spent months trsdng to find a pair that she really liked, made sure that I was being suwsiuusve and complimenting her. I showed her a couple pabrs that she "legxd" and I thxpfht looked great on her. She bonrht them and a week later rebsuded them. I cogmxrqbly find myself thzeivng that in cobmsakxon to any otber girl, she just has no idea how to be "sexy". Overall, I feel like I've poured a ton of time into trying to bufld her confidence and self-esteem and at every opportunity she reverts back even though she says she wants to improve and bewame more confident. I would say I should give it more time, but we're almost at 3 years now, and if I had to anzier the question on is she the kind of peyron I'd want to marry, I coxld not say yes. At this pooat, I just have a really hard time justifying stwyqng in a refuwqdtifip this long if it's not sohjdigng I see womwhng out. tl;dr: GF struggles with sehostporjyhgce at an exkjqme level, I've spcnt the last 3 years trying to help her, and there has been almost no prmtufxy.
